Review and How-To: MoYou London Comics 03 and Frenchy 05

(Gray Sky originally sent for review)

Hello!!

Today I have two old school Mo-You London plates to show you! These keep getting pushed to the back burner of my queue, but because of the theme in The Nail Challenge Collaborative this month, I was able to grab 'em and make a cool mani with them!

First up, as always, is my video review of the plates if you want to hear my ideas for using the images:

Here are the stills of Comics Collection 03:

I think a lot of stampers have learned to be wary of French manicure images because they are so difficult to apply accurately with old-school hard stampers. But with the advent of squishy stampers, it's a lot easier to get good placement; I will do a separate post on this soon, but for now, don't cross these off your list too quickly. ;-)

Here is a comparison with a standard Konad plate, so you can get a general sense for the size of the relative areas:

And finally, on to my mani! The theme for the Nail Challenge Collaborative this month is 'superheroes and villians', and that reminded me that I've been wanting to create this mani for ages...I started with a base of Barielle Gray Sky:

Barielle Gray Sky

Then I used the reversed-stamping technique to stamp and color the images before applying them to my nails; I stamped with Konad Black, and colored in with Sally Hansen Rapid Red, I-Rush Luck, and Lightning, and Barry M Silver Foil:

Superhero...or villain?

Superhero...or villain?

So, is that guy the hero or a villain? On the plate itself, it's pretty clear he comes and saves the day. But I like that it could go either way on my mani.

The plate stamped well, although there are a few small patches where it looks like it didn't--that's because this technique is still new to me and I'm working out the kinks of transferring the images. But just look at the blonde's face, and you can see the crispness here. Beautiful.

I love these plates for fun, retro looks--what do you think? Love it or leave it?

Happy Stamping,

M.

  3. Great manicure! I never considered either of those plates because they feel a little hard to work into a manicure for me. You've really showed a good way to use them!

    1. Yes!! I'm actually glad it took me so long to do a manicure with them because when I first got them the reversed stamping wasn't around yet. :)
