NOTD: Hippie Challenge

Hello!

Today my group challenge was Hippie/Retro/Summer of Love. Of course I'm far too young to remember it myself (okay, I'm a little too young to remember it myself, lol), but I remember when tie-dye became popular again at the end of the 80s, and yes--I owned some. And wore it proudly.

The best thing to do would have been a water marble for the tie-dye, but since I am water-marble challenged, I decided to go with a sponged effect. To do the background, I painted directly onto the sponge, and patterned it like this:

For the colors I used the following, from the center out: NYC Spring Street, Sally Hansen Insta-Dry in Lickety-Split Lime, Lively Lilac, and Brisk blue. I used a sponge big enough to cover the whole nail at once, and pressed it down onto my nails, roughly centered on the nail. Then I stamped over it to make a collage effect, using Sally Hansen Insta-Dry in Lightning (the peace signs; Bundle Monster plate BM07), and Lively Lilac and Brisk Blue for the 'love' words (both on Bundle Monser plate BM09).

Hippie nails! Groovy, man!

I got the hippie hippie shake!

I wish the colors had come out a little more vibrantly, but overall, I'm really pleased! :)

Peace, love and happiness to you all...and please check out the other bloggers who participated in this challenge. :)

  5. Gorgeous. I like that you used a sponge to create a different look than the usual gradient. Very smart! New follower. I'm hooked!
