Before & After: 1950s!

Hello!!

Today is my first entry into Crumpet Nail Tart's Sat-art-day weeky challenge. It marks another break from Halloween nail art, as the theme for this week is '1950s'.

I decided to use this opportunity to take another stab at a pin-up era manicure I tried back in the summer; it turned out to be a fail, but I refused to give up on it. I've changed it a fair amount and am much happier with the results!

I started with a base of Orly's Grave Mistake, which I wore for a day:

Grave Mistake is the perfect pin-up red, in my opinion. It's deep, rich, and a bit vampy, but clearly red and not brown or black. If you want a glamorous red, in my opinion, this is it!

For my 'after' manicure, I first stamped with Bundle Monster plate BM301 to create a graded dot background (I love that image!) using Sally Hansen White On. Then I stamped over the whole nail using grave mistake again, and the cherries from Mash plate Mash45. Here's the final result:

I do like this, and I think it has a pin-up feel, for sure. However, if I was going to do it again, I think I'd stamp the white a little less far down on the nail, with  just one row of cherries visible. That would make it look more like a french tip and would be just a bit prettier, I think. :)
