Review: The Lady Varnishes (part 2)

Today I have the second part of the polishes I received from The Lady Varnishes for you. I swear, every time I try more of these polishes, I fall more in love...sigh...:)

First, let's look at Duplicity, a periwinkle crelly with bright blue glittler, dark blue glitters, and a subtle blue shimmer:

If you're like me and you're not a huge fan of pastels, this is a beautiful polish for spring. It has a softness, and is muted, but it's not pastel. The bright blue glitters and shimmer add a little bit of visual magic, just a touch of ethereal wonder. The smaller glitters make this a little less flashy, but still very special.

In terms of formula and application, Duplicity's first coat can look a little bit patchy, but that's deceptive; once you put on your second coat, everything smooths over and looks gorgeous. I'm wearing two coats of all three polishes I'm showing you today, with topcoat.


But maybe the though of spring makes you think more of green...if so, check out Mr. Darcy, a muted-grass crelly with gold hexes and a golden shimmer:

This pond makes me think of a deep lilly pond in the middle of a beautiful garden. :) Application was good, but the larger glitters are always a bit tougher to navigate, and I had to do a bit of strategic dabbing with this one. Also, you may want two coats of topcoat with this one if you have curved nails like me, because the two layers of the larger hexes don't lie flat on the curviest parts of my nails.


And I'm gonna end with my unquestionable favorite of the three: The Pirate. This is a blue-leaning teal with a slate quality to it. It's a crelly with a blend of blue and gunmetal glitters, along with little flakes:

This is a deceptively complex polish. All of the elements come together to give a depth and visual texture to the polish; it's the kind of polish that, when you first see it, you think, 'how did they get that effect??' and you want to take a closer look. The effect is sophisticated and elegant; this type of polish is one of my current favorites looks (small glitter and flakes that disappear into one another), and that's awesome for me because she has several with this type of finish on her site right now. :)

The formula on this was very good--I had a little bit of patchiness on the first coat, but not much, and everything was perfect after the second coat.

Also, I tend to be so excited about the look of her polishes, I tend to forget to mention that you can get the polishes scented (she has a number of scents to choose from; my favorite is the Bergamot), and each bottle comes with its own charm that can be worn as a pendant. I actually wear mine as rings, but to each his own!
