Review: Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Dad's Mixtape Side B Collection, plus two extra polishes!

(Press samples ahead!)

Hello!

Ever since I reviewed Side A of Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer's Dad's Mixtape Collection (see my review here), I've been jonesin' for Side B. I grew up listening to my parents play a lot of the same songs, so the collection hits the nostalgia side of me as well as the polish fanatic side of me. Side A had gorgeous colors that combined a retro feel with a modern aesthetic, and they've become a regular feature in my nail art (I have a mani coming up using them shortly, in fact). So--I had high expectations for Side B.

Those expectations were exceeded. Because, holo, flakies, duochrome and glitter. Oh, yes. And, I have two other polishes to show you along with the three from the collection.

First up, from the Dad's Mixtape Side B collection, is Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer A Soul For Sale Or Rent, a black scattered holo filled to the brim with glitters, microglitters, flakies, and microflakies:

Formula: Excellent
Application: No issues
Coverage: One coat

This polish is inspired by Queen's Save Me, and if this polish doesn't capture the essence of Freddie Mercury, then I don't know what does. The scattered holo glitter throws a rainbow of light every which way, while adding a silvery feel that makes the black glitzy and fun. I'm not quite sure how something can manage to be over-the-top awesome in a controlled way, but this does it. If your soul combines goth and rainbows like mine does, this is the polish for you.

Next up we have Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Goin' Way Down South, also from the Dad's Mixtape Side B collection, a grassy green with duochrome shimmer that goes from blue to lavender-purple:

Formula: Excellent
Application: Easy breezy
Coverage: Two coats

This polish is inspired by Jimi Hendrix's Hey Joe, and I can see a little of Jimi in the flash of blue-purple. The duochrome flash in this did not want to come out in my lightbox, but I was able to get it to come out to play in my living room light, so I took a shot there along with a little video:

I love surprising color shifts like this in duochromes, and while I have a large collection of them, I don't have one like this. It's bright, a little psychedelic, and just plain happy. I absolutely adore it.

The last offering from the Dad's Mixtape Side B collection is Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer's Four Star Daydream, a topper filled with a multitude of different gold glitter shapes, including stars and holo:

Formula: Excellent
Application: Easy; you'll need to fish for the star glitters if you want them, but not for the rest.
Coverage: One coat shown. I suggest sponging on if you want full coverage.

This polish is inspired, of course, by Pink Floyd's Money--and this is about as rich and luxurious as you get. I'm showing one coat of it here over Goin' Way Down South, and this combination screams money! It also screams St. Patrick's Day to me, so I may be revisiting this combination in about a month. No matter what you put it over, it'll add glitz and glamour to your day.

Glitter gradients over nude nails are trendy again right now, so I thought I'd show this polish to you in a slightly different way, as well--one coat over my nude nails, so you can picture how it would look for that purpose:

I didn't do a gradient because I wanted you to get a feel for what a single coat looks like on its own. Notice that I've included a star on one nail--I like that there are enough star glitters in this polish that you can include them or not as you like. How cute would it be to do a gradient and have the stars 'shooting' down your nails??

Next we have a polish not included in the collection, Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer My Precious, a blue-leaning light-grape polish with gorgeous pink-blue duochrome glitter:

I am obsessed with duochrome glitters right now, and this feeds my need for one that will ease me right into spring. This looks like a great big bunch of blue-and-purple hydrangeas right on my nails--like a Monet watercolor of them, at least. This is feminine but not too soft, pretty with a little edge. Love.

And finally, we have another separate polish, Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer's Green's Alexandrite With Me, a stunning forest green soft linear holo with flakies:

Formula: Perfection
Application: Perfection
Coverage: One-two coats

Oh. My. Gosh. This is what I imagine the Emerald City looks like, sparkling and gorgeous and lush. The soft linear holo flashes gently like the afternoon sun glinting off a city skyline, and the flakies peek out, adding dimension and a slight difference in shade that simulate the shifts in light off the facets of a gemstone. This is an absolutely stunning polish.

Pick a favorite? No way. I love them all, so much--I can tell you without a doubt you'll see each and every one back here in nail art posts.

All polishes are available for pre-order now through February 7th, midnight EDT. The three Dad's Mixtape Side B polishes will be available as a set for $32.50 full size, and $17 mini size. The other two polishes are available for $12 each. Here's where you can find Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer:

Happy polishing, and ROCK ON!

  1. The black and the purple went straight to the top of my wishlist! The black especially. It's the black with multi-colored glitters that I have always wanted but, have been underwhelmed with in the past. It's so cool! Beautiful swatches! I'm off to go check out the Side A collection now!
