NOTD Inspired by a movie: Arachnophobia!

Hello!!

...And in this second post for today, I have my first challenge manicure for the second Halloween challenge I'm in...Did I lose you with all of that? Hee hee...

My second Halloween challenge is the 'This Is Halloween' nail art challenge:

The first theme of the challenge, as you can see, is 'Horror Movie'. I chose a slightly unorthodox horror movie to go with--Arachnophobia. It might not be a canonical sort of horror movie, but it scares the crap out of me...particularly because I had my own version of it happen to me.

There is a scene in the movie where the family finds a huge web in their barn, one that is bigger than the height of a human. This happened to me in my garage once...

See, I'd bought a car, and the car had been driven down from an area that was heavily populated with black widow spiders...and brought a hitchhiker with it. As the car sat in the garage for a few days, the egg sac that the momma black widow had laid in my wheel well hatched...and she and her little babies began to spin web, everywhere. When I opened the garage door, I was greeted by a huge web, with my car in the center of it. At first, I wasn't sure what had happened...but then I traced the density of the web to the wheel well, and came face to face with momma and the remains of the egg sac. Then I noticed that everywhere, all over the web, were little bitty white spiders...cause that's what baby black widows look like when they're newly hatched.

This manicure is a recreation of the trail of baby spiders leading away from momma:

Ugh, it still gives me the heebiejeebies just to think about it, but I love how the manicure came out, lol!

For my base color, I used Orly Space Cadet, and put Blackheart Beauty Royally Screwed, a blue glitter, over it. It's very hard to see because the sun wasn't out, but on the ring finger I have a web stamped in Color Club Wild At Heart, a purple holo (I used plate QA26). Then, I stamped the momma spider over it with Sally Hansen Silver Sweep using Mash-38. I stamped the baby spiders with the same polish and Bundle Monster plate BM13.

Thanks for stopping by and taking a look, and please take a look at the other challenge manicures linked below! :)

xoxo,
M.

  1. Reading this gave me goose bumps. I despise spiders. I never had a huge issue with them until we killed four of them on our front porch. I was really excited that we hadn't found any this summer only to be greeted by what I believe to be a hobo spider. My poor husband handled it like a champ. I just stood there screaming at him to kill it and he was just telling me to go inside but I couldn't. Lol.

  8. That is a gorgeous mani. I love to look at spiders, but only when they are outside and not in a position to sneak up on me. I am not afraid of them, but if a bug crawls on me I feel itchy and twitchy and blah for a long time.

    1. Thank you so much! The only spiders I don't like are the poisonous ones. The rest are not really a big deal--except for the ones that look like the ones in that movie. They still creep me out!! :)
