PPU Alert: Stella Chroma Turtle-y Tubular

(Press samples and affiliate links ahead!)

Hello!

This month's Polish Pickup theme is Aquatic Wonder, and Stella Chroma's contribution this month is based on a pet I always wanted to have--the turtle! Okay, I guess I actually wanted a tortoise, 'cause they're the ones that are on land, right? I can't ever keep those straight...Anyway, let's take a look:

Coverage: I'm wearing 2 coats
Formula and application: Easy, breezy, beautiful
Description: This polish was inspired by the Honu of Hawaii, floating in the crystal blue waters of the North Shore. It's a sandy nude glitter crelly with sapphire blue and emerald green holographic glitter, with a few matte turquoise glitters thrown in, and a little bright green shimmer for good measure!

This polish looks like a beautiful day at the beach to me, like foamy waves washing back out to the sea, in that moment when the blue and the green dance on the sand...Since I can't go to the beach anytime soon, this polish is going to get me through until I can. I have a feeling you'll be seeing it reappear on the blog with some beach nail art...

Stella Chroma also has a sugar scrub as part of the sale this month, called Cool Reef:

I don't know about you, but I'm washing my hands about a hundred times a day right now, and when I finish off the end of the day with a little of this, it leaves my skin soft and hydrated rather than dry and cracked. I love the minty-eucalyptus scent to this (I love hanging out in eucalyptus groves), and the hit of citrus makes it bright and happy.

On to the nail art! First, something a little fancy:

Base Polish(es): Stella Chroma Turtle-y Tubular
Stamping Plate(s): Hit The Bottle Polish To Love or not to Love
Stamping Polish(es): Hit The Bottle Polish Everyday I'm Truffling

I wanted to play up the beige base of this, so I accented it with a brown. And I love these two patterns together--they have sort of a Victorian wrought-iron fence look to me.

For my next one I went light and fun to play up the beach look:

Stamping Plate(s): Creative Shop 93
Stamping Polish(es): It Girl Nail Art Sapphire

This one is obviously meant to look like clouds, but when I look down at my nails, the curves also look like waves washing over the beach.

Both Turtle-y Tubular and Cool Reef will be on sale during April's Polish Pickup, from April 3rd through 6th. It'll sell for $12 for a 15mL bottle, with no cap. In the meantime, check out Stella Chroma's other beauties, here. :)

Stay safe and healthy,

Killer Kitties...

(Press samples and affiliate links ahead!)

Hello!

So, there have been plenty of times when I've acquired a plate because an image matched something in my wardrobe...but for the first time ever, I bought an article of clothing because it matched an image I have in my stamping plate wardrobe.

It was really only a matter of time.

Here's the image in question, from Creative Shop 151:

Yes, that's right, it's a murderous kitty with a bloody knife standing atop a pile of skulls from his (or her!) victims. Totes adorbs, am I right?!

So you can imagine what happened when I saw this shirt:

If what you imagine is me squealing and clicking 'buy' so fast I sprained my finger, you're spot on.

For reasons I won't get into, I had to do a manicure using orange on the day I used this image for the first time. So here's what I came up with:

Base Polish(es): Stella Chroma Hug The Road and Sally Hansen Get Mod
Stamping Plate(s): Creative Shop 151
Stamping Polish(es): Hit The Bottle Polish My Suitor Wears Pewter, Drop Red Gorgeous, and Kaleidoscope White & Black

How cute and Halloweeny is that?! The next time I do it, I'm going to choose colors that match the shirt more exactly, but I gotta say, I love, love, love how this came out. What do you think? Too creepy for you? Or just creepy enough?

Big hugs,
M. xoxo

PPU Alert! The Lady Varnishes Human Tales? Humans Don't Have Tails...

(Press samples and affiliate links ahead!)

Hello!

You guys! I've had a crazy busy couple of weeks! Among other things, I had visitors from out of town and another of my cats had to be rushed to the hospital after trying to eat my couch. Possibly the cutest moment of it all was when my little niece told the cat, "Stop eating things you aren't supposed to eat!" Truer words have never been spoken.

But not it's time for Polish Pickup! The November theme is fairy tales, and we're going to kick things off with a polish from The Lady Varnishes inspired by Fern Gully:

Coverage: 2 coats
Formula and application: Easy, breezy, awesome.

A scattered holo forest green to get me through fall and winter?! YES PLEASE. I love the gold glimmer in this, and the subtle look of glowing flakes. Gorgeous on its own, if you're a nail artist, this is great for creepy Halloween forests and beautiful pine groves for winter/Christmas. I'm telling you--grab this one.

For my nail art with this one, I was inspired by one of my favorite tales from this time of year--the tale of Linus waiting for the Great Pumpkin. For some reason that always fascinated me--even though he never saw the Great Pumpkin, he believed so hard, and that just always made me happy. So I created my very own Great Pumpkin, glimpsed flying around the pumpkin patch:

The Lady Varnishes I'm So Ogre Green...Not!

(Press samples and affiliate links ahead!)

Hello!

Today I have another polish to show you from August's Polish Pickup collection--The Lady Varnishes I'm So Ogre Green...Not!, inspired by Shrek, The Musical:

The Lady Varnishes I'm So Ogre Green...Not!

The Lady Varnishes I'm So Ogre Green...Not! is a beautiful sea-foam green to baby blue multichrome that also shows hints of lavender, with a flecked finish:

I have on two easy coats of gorgeous formula that applied like butter. :)

This, to my mind, is the ultimate mermaid polish. I don't normally go out of my way to grab a pastel, but this--this is stunning. It's magical and ethereal, the sort of polish I can't take my eyes off. It's like an enchanted pond or a perfect mermaid's tail or an ocean sprite. Light dances across it like ballerinas floating across a stage.

I wanted to do something that celebrated the light, precious feel of this polish, so I stamped it with a stained-glass-type image from Creative Shop 44 using Moyra Silver; I reversed stamped little gems with Hit The Bottle Polish Lucky Spark and Amethyst Sizzle (available in the US here):

And then I matted it:

I love the gems in this image, and I feel like this adds a little extra special to the mani, while allowing the polish to really shine through. :)

You can purchase a bottle of this stunner between August 3rd and 6th during this month's Polish Pickup sale. If you want to see more spoilers of the polishes, come hang out with the Polish Pickup Pack, and in the meantime, check out the other polishes in The Lady Varnishes' shop.

Big hugs,
M. xoxo

Review: Creative Shop 23 (or, Autumn Splendor)

(Press samples and affiliate links ahead!)

Hello!

Today I have a Creative Shop plate to review for you--Creative Shop 23. When Creative Shop's XL squishy stamper came on the market, I fell in love, and my XL squishies are still a go-to for me--but believe it or not, I never tried any of Creative Shop's plates. So I was eager to get my hand on Creative Shop 23, and of course I did a video review of it discussing ideas for how to use it:

(I also have a quickie review that just shows the images and the swatches if you prefer that).

Let's take a look at the plate:

Creative Shop 23
Creative Shop 23

The feel that predominates this plate to me is 'garden'. Birds and flowers and leaves, and yes, even little hedgehogs (why, why must they hog the hedge??). There are owls and beautiful little girls to put in your garden, and even a lamb or a horse to give it a country garden feel.

The full-nail images are about 5/8ths of an inch wide and an inch long:

And the plate stamps like a dream:

For my sample mani, I started with a base of Zoya Tanzy and Zoya Channing, then I stamped the leaf images over with Messy Mansion Soft Gold:

What do you think? I love the subtle gradient and how the gold has pop, but also complements the colors in the gradient. I love how soft the leaf pattern is, too.
