Dixie Plates Camouflage 01!

(Press samples and affiliate links ahead!)

Hello!

Today we're going to take a look at another new plate from Dixie Plates, her Camouflage 01 plate...Here's the video review I did of the plate:

Here's a look at the plate:

This is a layering plate, designed to work together to produce different types of camo print. The first four images from top-left over are designed to work together; the last image on the top and the first two bottom left work together, and the final three go together. Of course, you're only limited by your imagination, so you can layer whichever ones you want for whatever effects you want.

My advice for using this plate is to start with the biggest print and move to the smaller print, starting with your lightest polish and ending with your darkest polish. That will make sure you don't just obscure your first layer of stamping as you go along. But of course, you can play around however you want!

Here are four sample camos I made with the plate:

Of course you can use this plate to make camo prints in whatever colors you want. But you can also use these images for other types of background texture. For example, the first print looks like antiqued gold-leafing to me, and is so much easier than pulling out a pot of the actual leafing stuff you can buy for nail art. And how cute would that pink camo look under some Valentine's Day stamping?!

For my first mani, I wanted to play with a cool color combination for my camo. I started with a base of Zoya Isa and Ellie (also available from Zoya's website), and then stamped my images over it with Hit The Bottle Polish Purple Reign, It Mossed Be Love, and Pool Party (also available at Lantern & Wren):

Something about this looks very 80's, don't you think? I love how well the bright colors worked together.

For my second mani, I wanted to create the look of a Hawaiian sunset with a smattering of clouds; I started with a gradient base made with Zoya Ellie, Minnie, and Missy. Then I stamped with a gradient of either Sally Hansen Night Flight or Grease Lightning and Zoya Minnie, and Sally Hansen Silver Stallion and Zoya Missy, to give the look of the colors being reflected on the clouds. Here's how it turned out:

I think the colors in this one are soft and tropical, and I love the ethereal way the 'clouds' look.

For my next look, I wanted to do something with the gold-leafing look I got with the metallics. I started with a base of Zoya Marigold, and then stamped Moyra SP-08 Silver, Messy Mansion Jingle Bells, and Hit The Bottle Polish Everyday I'm Truffling. Then I stamped over that with Dixie Plates DP-09, and Kaleidoscope St-01 Black:

This has a wrought-iron feel to me, like an old antique gate or balcony. This would be a great look for the holidays, with Christmassy images stamped over the top. I'm in love with how it came out.

I liked the look so much, in fact, that I did a second manicure with it. For this version, I put dots of Moyra Silver and Messy Mansion Jingle Bells on my index and middle finger, and I put Sally Hansen Blacky O on my pinkie and stamped the same image with Messy Mansion Jingle Bells:

This version is a little less intense than the first--do you have a favorite?

If you're interested in getting the antique-leafing look, I did a tutorial showing you how I created it:

What do you think? Are you a camo person? What do you think of the versions I created?

You can find this plate in the Dixie Plate store, on sale now. You can also find this at Lantern & Wren if you're in the US and Canada, and you can keep up with Dixie Plates around the interwebs here:

Two Polish Pickup Product Manis!

(Press samples and affiliate links ahead!)

Hello!

April's Polish Pickup window is from April 6th to April 9th, which means the window opens today! In honor of that, I have two manicures I did with Polish Pickup products that are available this month to show you. :)

First up is a mani I did with Shinespark Polish Maveth, which I showed you yesterday. For this mani I wanted to do something that let the pretty holo flash shine through, and played well with the subtle purple flash, so I stamped an image from UberChic Beauty 24-03 with Hit The Bottle Polish Aubergenie:

Something about the deco feel of this image really feels right with the cool, ethereal feel of Maveth. :)

For my second mani, I've been dying with the phases-of-the-moon image from It Girl Nail Art IG309 (see my review here). I did a gradient with Zoya Snow White and Eat Sleep Polish Sheets of Empty Canvas (no longer available, but any black will do), then stamped with a vertical gradient of Messy Mansion Chalk and Carbon:

And the second I saw it, I felt the need to matte it! (The matte polish I use is Sally Hansen Big Matte topcoat):

I loe how this came out! If I did it again, I'd swipe a little to get more of a gray between the white and black stamping, but I still think it's pretty cool as is. And I love the texture of the matte. :)

You can buy Shinespark Polish Maveth in the Polish Pickup store through April 9th (and no other time!), and if you buy It Girl Nail Art LE102, you get a coupon to get IG309 free. And, there are a ton of other gorgeous products all celebrating the Across the Universe theme, so there's plenty of awesomeness to drain your bank account, hehehe...;-)

Big hugs,
M. xoxo

NOTD: Love, Love, Love...(UberChic Beauty Love & Marriage 04 over Sally Hansen Insta-Dri gradient)

(Press samples ahead!)

Hello!

Today I have another Valentine's Day mani, this one featuring UberChic Beauty's Love & Marriage 04 and plate 23-03:

I started with a gradient I made blending Sally Hansen Racing rose and Watermelon Wizz. Then I stamped the scribble image from UCB 23-03 using Messy Mansion Chalk, and then the hearts image from Love & Marriage 04 with Messy Mansion Red-y Or Not:

I love how well those two images go together, and I love how dynamic this turned out! This absolutely puts me in a Valentine's mood. :)

Hope your week is off to a great start!

UberChic Beauty Radiate Love plate!

(Press samples and affiliate links ahead!)

Hello!

Today we're going to take a look at UberChic Beauty's Radiate Love plate, which is filled with mandala and henna designs to keep you centered and radiating all sorts of good things. :) Here's the video review I did of the plate:

And let's take a closer look:

UberChic Beauty Radiate Love
UberChic Beauty Radiate Love

What I love about this plate: mandalas are soothing for the soul and henna designs have so much you can do with them--decals, lead lighting, sharpie washes. So much to love here.

UberChic full nail images are 1.7cm x 2.1cm, and here's a look at how big the smaller stuff is:

This plate has lots of fine lines, but stamps beautifully even with a clear stamper:

For my first mani, I wanted to do something bold and powerful, so I started with a base of The Lady Varnishes Black Flame Candle, and stamped over it using MoYou London's Ginger Rust:

There's something about this that makes me think of Ancient Egyptian symbols--I'd like to think that Nefertiti would wear something like this on her nails if she could.

For my second mani, I started with a base of  Zoya Nadia, and stamped with Messy Mansion Soft Gold:

I love how glowy this one is, and how perfect for fall!

For my last mani, I wanted to really capture the 'radiate' part of the radiate plate. I stared with a gradient using Zoya Solstice, Sheri and Ming, all from the Party Girls 2017 holiday/winter collection, and then stamped over them with a gradient technique using Messy Mansion Jingle Bells, Soft Gold, and Sterling:

I love how the color changes make this look like the light is flowing out--I loved this mani so much, it was one of those that was super hard to take off. Here's a video tutorial if you want to try out the look yourself:

You can find this plate and so many other awesome ones now in UberChic Beauty's store. And don't forget to follow them around the interwebs here:

Happy stamping!

UberChic Beauty Zombie Love 02!

(Press samples and affiliate links ahead!)

Hello!

So we're into the heart of the Halloween season, and that means it's time for some awesome zombies! If you love Walking Dead or any other incarnation of zombies or apocalyptic mayhem, UberChic Beauty's Zombie Love 02 plate is a must have (and it goes beautifully with their first Zombie Love plate, of course). Here's the video review I did of the plate:

And here's a still shot:

UberChic Beauty Zombie Love 02
UberChic Beauty Zombie Love 02

What I love best about this plate: Oh, please don't make me choose. Zombie goodness everywhere...I love the cute little zombie guy that looks like he's dancing, and the creepy zombie guys and the layering zombie images, and the layered hand, and, and, and...I also love that she has some general apocalypse images on here so if whatever apocalyptic character you're dressing up as this Halloween, you can have some scary nails to go alone with.

As always, UberChic's full nail images are 1.7 x 2.1 cm, and here are shots with a ruler so you can judge the size of the others:

UberChic quality is always excellent--here are swatches with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Plummet, with my clear stamper:

For my first manicure, I started with a base of Girly Bits Cosmetics Funky Town and Jive Talkin' (I did a circle gradient on two of the nails, then stamped and made decals with Messy Mansion Carbon, Spring Green, Summer Heat, Banana Bender, and Red-y Or Not (also available directly from Messy Mansion if that works from where you're located):

I adore that these zombies are whimsical, but not super-duper cute, so you can have a look that's not super scary, but still creepy at the same time. Glitter holo + zombies = my happy place.

But what if you're looking for a straight-up scary zombie look? For my second mani, I wanted to use a layering effect to create a horde of zombies comin' right for ya! I started with a gradient of Zoya Scout and Tabitha, then stamped my images using Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Grease Lightening and Messy Mansion Carbon:

UberChic Beauty Zombie Love 02 over Zoya Tabitha and Scout
UberChic Beauty Zombie Love 02 over Zoya Tabitha and Scout

UberChic Beauty Zombie Love 02 over Zoya Tabitha and Scout
UberChic Beauty Zombie Love 02 over Zoya Tabitha and Scout

You can bet I'll be wearing this for the next Walking Dead premiere...

I think manis like this look even creepier with a little mattification, so I used my Sally Hansen Big Matte to mattify it:

UberChic Beauty Zombie Love 02 over Zoya Tabitha and Scout, matted
UberChic Beauty Zombie Love 02 over Zoya Tabitha and Scout, matted

UberChic Beauty Zombie Love 02 over Zoya Tabitha and Scout, matted

Somehow the matte makes the different layers look even deeper and more scary...Go Michonne, go!

I love this effect so much, I made a tutorial for you so you can recreate it:

You can find this plate in UberChic Beauty's store now, and you can follow UberChic Beauty around the interwebs here:

Happy spooky stamping, and watch out for those zombies!
