Stamping questions?

Hey there!

When you hear someone talk about nail stamping, do you break out in a sweat? Does your heart race at the thought of having to scrape polish correctly? Do you run screaming from the sight of a nail plate?

Fear not. Nail stamping is fun, and yes, it's actually easy with a little bit of guidance.

I'm going to put together a post with tips to help you get over your stamping fears and issues, and it would help me to know what sorts of issues you have with stamping. What have you struggled with in the past? What are your fears, if you've never tried it? What sort of stamping would you like to be able to do, but don't seem to be able to get right?

I'm by no means *the* expert on stamping, far from it, but I've been doing it for over a year now and I've picked up a few tricks of the trade along the way that I'd love to share them with you. So please let me know your stamping questions are in the comment section below; based on your questions and anything else I think will be useful, I'll put together a post or a series of posts (depending on how long it needs to be), to try to get you over those issues and on your way to stamping bliss. :)

Hugs and smooches!
M.

  1. I just bought my first squishy stamper. After the first test run I feel like I still am no better of than I was without it.It's so fragile, and the larhest images I have to work with are Bundle Monster 2. I would like to be able to use the squishy, because the Konad one has never worked well, even though I do use all the tips I've learned to make it work right.

    1. Can you explain for me why you say they don't work? What's going wrong? That will help me figure out if I know any advice that will help. :)

    2. I can't pick up the full image, or when I do it doesn't transfer to the nail, that's with the Konad.I also used the Squishy stamper for the first time, and couldn't position the image on my nail right. It came out with the image half-transferred and the rest was just a trace
      of the the image.

  4. I just bought some plates so I have a question :) How do you get the stamping design placed on your nails perfectly? I always struggle with getting the whole image transferred on my nails.

  6. I struggle with double stamping. Like picking good images to stamp over others and stuff like that. And also maybe some tips for when the whole image doesn't transfer. Ideas to fix it without redoing the whole image. I know to top coat it but you can only take the stamping off so many times before it messes with your base color.

  8. I have the hardest time with the scraping. It always seem to miss a part or it leaves a trail or line. Timing is a huge issue for me with polish drying before I get it scraped, picked up, the excess off the scraper, positioning it and lining it up just right, and then only part of the image transfers due to a dried out image!!! Eek. I do have trouble with "seeing" how the image should be laid on and get a lot of my designs backwards of how I want them. That is not something though that your tips will help, I just don't have the spatial skills and can't visualize. I am in awe of those who do perfect stamping manis.

  9. You have no idea how helpful this stamping tips post will be! I find alignment to be a big issue for me; how do you get every finger to look the same!? Also, my designs folds over on its own while transferring onto the nail creating a blob. Almost as if the design is sticking to the stamper then finally releases like a stretched rubber band. Help!

    1. I hope it will be helpful...I'll do my best! :) Alignment is a big one and I know what you mean about the design folding over on itself or seeming to cling to itself. I'll get this in there for sure. :)

  10. I saw a commercial on TV a couple years ago. I googled nail stamping and checked out konad's site but that was way more than i wanted to pay just to try it out. I saw the same TV kit in rite aid and bought it. I thought if i could get it to work, it would be worth buying plates from konad. I tried different polishes, tried to be quick about getting the image off the plate & onto my nail but it never worked out. The image was either a blob, only part of the image transfered or nothing transfers at all. I chalked it up to the whole kit being less than $20 and decided i didn't want to risk buying a much more expensive kit.

    1. I'm pretty sure I know the kit you're talking about; if so, I have the same plates. There are definitely differences in plates and equipment, but a lot of that can be overcome (unless you just got a defective set, which is possible). Let's see if I can get you some tips that will get your money's worth out of that investment! :)
